Like Paul, we must choose to walk away rather than confront. Like Paul, we must think about the minds of our audience, rather than impede the consciousness of their spirits. Like Paul, we must watch by the sidelines, rather than join the chaos. For when a person decides to follow their own worldly habits, only God can work on their hearts. Therefore, may we seek to comfort when we find someone brokenhearted. Moreover, may we seek to forgive when a person’s misdeeds lay themselves upon our doorsteps. For no matter the disappointment that a person has caused you, stand with the strength of Samson, which will keep you from folding underneath their careless attitudes. For “he comforts all our troubles so that we can comfort others” (2 Corinthians 1:4). So be of good faith and cheer because like Paul, you too will be redeemed in the end. When the going gets tough, reaffirm your love for them (Don’t give up on anyone). Amen.

Moreover, Herbert serves on the pureHOPE advisory board, where his commitment to “wait until marriage” fits perfectly with PureHope’s mission to bring a Christian solution to an immoral culture.

Finally, Herbert through the will of God writes weekly devotionals to combat the decreasing morality in the 18-30 age group a.k.a., “the transition gap.” This is an effort to re-introduce Jesus Christ to this spiritually starved generation. His devotionals go out to 2,000+ people and continues to grow under the Lord’s watchful eye.  He is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Business Management. He provides business expertise to help others start their businesses.

Jason was connected to us through our dear brother-in-Christ and fellow devotional writer, Herbert Bowen, Jr. (thank you Herbert!). Residing in Limerick, PA, Jason is passionate in spreading the gospel from nation to nation. I’ve been touched by our conversations, sensing his deep commitment to the Lord and love of serving others. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 (New International Version)            

The human race, a people created by God who share one true purpose which is to love and glorify Him. What is love to God? Jesus Christ said, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23)

Unfortunately, Saul’s earthly kingdom was taken from him because of his disobedience to God and he was no longer able to be used by the Lord. For the Lord does not look at our social status, appearance, what we have or what we don’t have. The Lord looks at the heart. The Bible calls David a man after the Lord’s heart (Acts 13:22). One may say, was not David an adulterer who conspired an unjust murder in an attempt to cover up his sin? Yes, this is true. However, because God is omniscient and omnipresent having complete knowledge and is everywhere at the same time, David’s sin was laid bare and exposed before God. Yet when David was confronted of the sin committed, David humbly, remorsefully, and willingly repented of his sin.

Throughout the beautiful book of Psalm, we witness the intimate relationship David is in with the Lord. There is a noticeable friendship and an obvious submitting of David’s self toward the will of God. David expresses his inner being to God telling all of how he is feeling. That is the kind of attitude and intimate relationship God wants us to have with and toward Him. A heart that is open and bent toward His will. The Lord’s will is always good and He wants the best for us. But if we are prideful, self-seeking, denying, not recognizing nor confessing our sinfulness as Saul failed to do, the Bible says we make God a liar and His word is not in us (1 John 1:10).

Dear Brothers and Sisters, let us always remember to keep our savior Jesus Christ in the forefront of our thinking. He will lead us by the Holy Spirit moment by moment if our hearts are bent toward His will for our lives. Living a life bent toward the Lord is a life worth living for! It is an exciting and thrilling life that has no limits! Jesus Christ loves us endlessly and is a God of second chances. He will restore you to being used by Him again for His glory and your benefit if your attitude toward Him is right (2 Chronicles 7:14). Amen

Jason Melchizedek Alexandre was born on November 29, 1989 in Brooklyn, New York. However, at two years old he and his family moved to Philadelphia, PA. Later, Jason moved to Limerick, PA where he now resides. Jason is currently working toward obtaining his Master of Social Work degree at Widener University. Although Jason’s career is Social Work, his spiritual passion is missions. Jason believes in actively answering the great commission call Jesus gave all Christians for the gospel to be spread from nation to nation. On a yearly basis, Jason primarily goes to Haiti on a mission trip with Haiti Christianity Inc. Each year Haiti Christianity visits different cities and/or villages in Haiti bringing children educational supplies, clothes, and medical supplies. They also facilitate conferences in which bible study, budgeting tips, financial planning and most importantly evangelization takes place.  Jason is currently their public relations director. Jason’s vision is for the gospel to continue to be spread throughout the world and believes it is Christian’s responsibility to carry out this mission effectively.

Ladies, I have encouraging words for you: You don’t have to have it all together to be successful! That is wonderful news and should automatically bring you peace. During this past Wednesday’s radio show (March 19), we talked with three fabulous women who through their respective organizations and careers, are empowering other women to live out their God-given purposes. The episode, “Empowered Women Empowering Others” is the third conversation of this month’s radio series called “March with Us, March with Her,” as we host great women every Wednesday in March, showcasing how they are helping other women. Our show guests: Dawn Bauer, founder of The Family Hope Line, Carrie B. Cook, founder of empowHERment, and Kareen Riviere, PhD, an FDA scientist and founder of The Empower Foundation, all brought great advice, authentically shared their experiences and lessons learned. As part of our conversation, we realized that sometimes in trying to please everyone, we put on a good face, push through even when our bodies are exhausted, and think we have to know how to do everything.

We quickly learned from Dawn, who experienced a health scare in late February, that there is “nurturing power in the word ‘no’ and setting personal and professional boundaries.” We learned from Carrie that not everything has to be in place, and that “we benefit by sharing the lows we experience. There are blessings and lessons in sharing our failures with others.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 says that “Christ’s power is made perfect in our weakness.”  In pursuing our purpose, Kareen advised to “Trust in God’s timing. Know that God would not put this dream in your heart if you were not equipped to see it through.”

Here are some more good nuggets that emerged from our conversation as you learn and understand God’s purpose for you:

  • Listen to and act upon the warning signs given by your body; don’t push through it; seek medical help
  • Don’t let a temporary circumstance change your permanent disposition! Keep your joy, peace and know your worth!
  • Your obedience is tied to somebody else’s destiny
  • We all have unique giftings and skillsets; connect to who God has created you to be
  • You are here and important
  • God’s plan is infinitely greater than we can map for ourselves; will be more meaningful and purposeful than we can dream
  • Being vulnerable is ok; it encourages others to see we’re not perfect
  • In pursuing your dream, pray on it, write down your ideas, do your research, know if you need donors or investors, make achievable goals, share your ideas with those you trust, and have someone/team/support system to keep you accountable
  • Be aware of the people God places in your life; they may further develop your purpose and you may help develop theirs
  • Recheck your intentions and ensure your actions are motivated by a pure heart

God’s word comes to us in the scriptures, wise counsel, gifts of the Spirit, and providential instruction. The verse above illustrates the wisdom of the psalmist. He grasped the concept that God’s Word alone could guide his path and enable him to walk in a way that would secure an eternal future for him, his contemporaries, and anyone who would believe in generations to come. Our approach toward divine revelation should be the same.

We fall woefully short of this, and sadly we live in an age of cynicism. Believers are seen as irrelevant, unscientific folks who follow fables. Our security and certainty offends in this age of insecurity and uncertainty. Very few people drawing breath know what they should be doing, where they are going, or who they should follow. Scripture insists that every person will ultimately have to make a decision between following God’s light, their own, or someone else’s. Like the world, we too were taught to sketch out a future for ourselves and forge our way ahead while ignoring God’s instructions along the way. Upon salvation, we turned from that way of life; yet, the gospel of self remains the same. Believing in one’s will power is the ultimate form of self-actualization, and those who have achieved this are in high demand.

And so the self-appointed fill the headlines today boasting of their achievements with cleverly crafted words, mantras, and theories that cast wide nets that ensnare the unstable who are void of faith or uncertain of Christ. These self-promoters are in places of worship, politics, entertainment, business, and the scientific arenas. Beware! They are blind guides that will lead many to ruin. One thing remains clear and certain; God will guide His own. He still speaks the same words today that he did milleniums ago. These are the very words that changed my life: “Follow me.”

For hard work is the embodiment of a man/woman’s legacy. What was built with their hands, minds, and spirits was a testament to their indomitable will to wade through the turbulent waters. Hard work also provided meaning for their lives, which allowed them to be the vibrant thread woven into the tapestry of their communities. Those individuals were driven to create a life that they had dreamed of and now their work was complete. Thus, what does a man/woman who spent a lifetime working do? Hence, their minds begin to race and their bodies become uneasy. They are bothered by the still of the night, only to arise to a lackluster morning. They find that while their legacy is cemented in history, their soul is in turmoil. They stare into that cold mirror alone and afraid only to realize that this too is meaningless, in comparison to living a God-centered life. Amen

To Learn Your Purpose, Give Yourself Away to God

During our March 12 radio show, we enjoyed a purposeful conversation with Prophetess Ruth Miranda of Ruth Miranda Ministries and Women With Divine Purpose. Our topic, “Ladies: Are You Living Your Purpose?”  Prophetess Miranda, of Hollywood, Fla., (she says where “the real stars shine”), believes everyone has a purpose and helps other women walk in their God-given callings. The episode continues our series “March with Us, March with Her,” as we showcase great women every Wednesday in March (Women’s History Month) who are equipping other women to live out their God-given purposes.

The oldest of seven born to Puerto Rican parents and raised in Brooklyn, New York, God brought Ruth L. Miranda to Puerto Rico to begin her ministry. Comparing her arrival to the television series “Green Acres” (very rural) she was uncertain of God’s intentions for bringing a city girl to the countryside. She began a radio show ministry that served as the vessel that would prevent a woman’s suicide and would bring another to Christ. Her purpose was being developed.

Pastor Ruth MirandaToday, at 58 and with most of her life committed to ministry alongside her husband of nearly 40 years, this wife, mother, grandmother and faithful woman of God has seen His hand carry her and her family through victorious and painful situations. As a child she began to understand the divine calling on her life as the Spirit of the Lord has anointed her “to preach good tidings unto the meek, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captive, and the opening of the prison to those that are bound…” as stated in Isaiah 61:1.

How do you ensure you are walking in your purpose? Here are some nuggets that came from our conversation to help you:

  • Give yourself away to God so HE may reveal His desires for you (Click to hear the song “I Give Myself Away” by William McDowell)–He wants you!
  • Get in His Word so He may reveal to you who He is, and help you better understand your identity in Christ
  • Get in His presence, commune with Him daily, hourly, what have you, to develop your relationship with Him; you can’t know someone without talking with them
  • God’s purpose is unique to you; don’t compare your path to everybody else
  • Realize you’ll go through “seasons” while in your purpose, to undergo further development, growth, refining, instruction to prepare for the next level in your journey (He may begin you in one area to advance you into another)
  • You won’t regret His plans, for He is able to do “exceedingly and abundantly more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20)

Isaiah 55:8-9 (New Living Translation) 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

No matter how hard we try or desire to, we will never be able to figure God out. Oh, we can come to know Him better and better each day, but trying to figure out what He’s going to do and how He’s going to do it, is an enormous waste of time and energy. At least in my humble opinion.

It’s just as simple as you create the best work of art that you can imagine. You love it and so do many people who see it. But one day, you decide to put it in a security vault to protect it. Or you decide to donate it to a museum or auction it off for charity.

My point is, it is YOU who are deciding what to do with your work of art, not the art itself. To ask or expect the art to determine its fate sounds ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as it is for us to figure out God or try to tell Him what He can or cannot do with us.

Yes, we are God’s work of art and He has given us the ability to choose. Even so, it’s useless or futile to believe that we can figure God out or control His actions. The things that He has revealed to us about Himself, are the things we need to hold on to. He loves us. He wants us with Him for all eternity. He provides and has provided for us to be free from the evil one and sin. He has revealed what He cares to reveal to us about Himself and our future, according to His Will, not ours. He is our Heavenly Father and our God, if we so choose.

Today, I encourage us all to simply know that the Creator of All, has our lives securely in His hands. Even when we try to pull away, He holds on tighter and tighter. He places us where He needs us, according to His Will for our lives and for our created purpose.

Rest assured that if you have chosen His Son as your personal Lord and Savior, then, there is no need to figure out what God is doing. For what He is doing is making you and I ready to be clothed in His righteousness, to take our place in His eternal presence.

Heavenly Father we thank you today for creating us, loving us and fulfilling our created purpose in your kingdom. Forgive us for those times of fear and doubt and endless questioning of “why this” and “how comes.” Please continue to help us simply say, “yes Lord” and “thank you.” Be with us today as always and open our eyes even more to see all of who you are to us. This we pray and ask in Jesus name, Amen.

What is your favorite candy? Mine are Twizzlers. Each Twizzler tastes as good as the first, which makes stopping seemingly impossible. After some time had elapsed, I realize that a 1 pound bag was consumed in a single sitting. If we ignore the caloric intake and focus on my upset stomach, we will see that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Thus, can’t the same be said for our mouths being bigger than our minds? For one word kindled the flame. Two words set it ablaze and three words brought the wood. Our phrases have strengthened the fire, which leads to verbal paragraphs that created an unquenchable conflagration. Thus, our words cannot be careless, or our fiery tongue will scathe all who stood around us. Therefore, may we hush and be quiet, for if our words are left untamed we will find ourselves in utter ruin. (Speak through love) Amen

You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made! And Your Accuser is a Loser

“Kicking the devil in the teeth every day!” Yes! Those words began this Wednesday’s radio show with Pastor Kimberly Jones-Pothier of RealTalkKim.com and Conquering Hell in High Heels ministry, and Ana Martinez, chef and Voices Against the Grain devotional writer. We ENJOYED our time in the Lord! We shared an authentic conversation on relationships, surrendering to God when you’re going through trials, how to ignore your accuser (Satan) who surfaces your mistakes, and “What Is a Proverbs 31 Woman?” In a society where “anything goes,” Proverbs 31:10-31 reveals the honorable woman. The conversation kicked off our month-long radio show series “March with Us, March with Her” as we highlight women of God who are equipping other women to live out their God-given purposes.

Several golden nuggets of truth emerged from our discussion to include:

  • There is nothing you go through that God can’t use for someone else’s benefit—you are getting through it for you and someone else
  • Deliberately set aside quiet time with God to develop your purpose
  • We all fall short—yet your past is not beyond God’s reach or restoration
  • God will accelerate your path and recover time lost
  • If you are not equally yoked or on the same page with the person you’re in relationship, they can destroy your future
  • Recognize your identity in Christ and don’t be defined by the world; get your eyes off of what the world portrays and pray for God to reveal to you everything He created you to be
  • God will finish the good work He began in you, no matter how broken your past
  • Satan is our accuser and will remind you of your faults to hinder your purpose—take away the devil’s authority by confronting your past and walk in God who has called you! You are a new creation in Christ who is fearfully and wonderfully made! You are more than a conqueror! Keep moving forward! Only YOU can stop YOU! (Psalm 139:14, Romans 8:37)
  • God’s plan is to prosper you, not to harm you (Jeremiah 29:11)
  • A Proverbs 31 Woman is one whose confidence is anchored in the LORD

Philippians 3:12-14

12-Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13-Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead 14-I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

What does this mean? In order to move forward we must let go of things of the past that keep us bound.  It is so important that we properly deal with tragedies that have taken place but after we are healed we must let them go and move forward.  Today is a new day and God has amazing things in store for you if you will just daily look to Him to supply your needs.  Keep moving forward on the path of righteousness, keep doing good unto others, keep upholding the Word of God and stop looking back in fear.  You can’t drive a car properly if you are constantly looking into the review mirror.  Deal with your issues, face your giants and then MOVE FORWARD! Victory is just around the corner.

Ana Martinez was born in Michigan. When she was age 4, her parents Pastor Juan and Deborah Martinez founded the Potter’s House Christian Fellowship in Almont, Mich.  Ana grew up in the church and in a humble, loving Christian home.  Her parent’s faithfulness and commitment to ministry for over 27 years has been a testimony to her.  In her youth she was like the prodigal son.  She knows what it means to walk away from your call and to stray from the Word of God.  Her life experiences have taught her that God’s way and His principles are worth upholding.  She is a God-fearing Christian woman determined to do the will of The Lord.  Her heart’s desire is to reach the lost and win souls for the kingdom of heaven by sharing the Good News, according to Matthew 28:19. Ana has served on the Missionary Field, and has served in and led praise and worship, web design, children’s ministry and youth ministry.  Ana’s most recent initiative is Georgia Peach Ministry, a non-profit she founded that serves widows and orphans.  Ana is also on the board of the Potter’s House Christian Fellowship. Ana is a private chef and has worked with professional athletes over the past five years. She is also an entrepreneur and is part owner in an interior design business, a chef placement business, and is entering into the food product industry.

Ana resides in Southern California with her three beautiful children and seeks daily to model this scripture from Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
