The Boulder Too Heavy to Lift

Philippians 1:30-We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it. (New Living Translation)

The struggle, the struggle, the struggle, oh the struggle. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world” (Ephesians 6:12). Thus, we must be well equipped to prepare ourselves for a celestial game of tug of war. This game is one that is stacked in favor of our enemies, as they recruited Goliath, the minions of the dark, and nefarious rulers of old to pull against us. With this crew they begin edging us closer to their side of the battle line, which was drawn since the day of our inception. Their tugs of guilt, defiance, and hopelessness fuel their strength, which ultimately depletes us. However, like ants in a colony, God works alongside us to provide the aid of Sampson, his angels, and saints of old to turn the battle in our favor, because when God is for us, who can stand against us.

Here’s the Picture, What Do You See?

Matthew 9:28- Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?” “Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.” (New Living Translation)

Eyes are the gateway to the soul. Eyes are the windows that reflect our truest intent, while revealing our cached weaknesses. Eyes, like a lie detector, can hardly be dissuaded from uncovering the truth. Eyes are the visceral shell of the inner sanctum of our souls. So it should come as no surprise that when Jesus healed the man, his eyes sparkled like fireworks in the midnight sky. For once he was shrouded in darkness, but God brought back the light. Once he had to imagine the countenance of his loved one’s, but God flooded him with love so he might behold their image. Once, they were hopeless, but God “touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen” (Matthew 9:29). Therefore, it was by faith that his eyesight was restored, and it was by faith that he will go and tell everyone about what the Lord hath done for him that day.

Inundated By a Sea of Green

Proverbs 13:11- Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. (English Standard Version)

Our success is not contingent upon what is gained, but rather on what is kept. Our success is not contingent on what is accumulated, but rather on what is shared. Our success is not contingent on what is on earth, but rather on what is above. Hence, may we continue living with patience knowing that our success is a labor of love/pain, which does not come free. In fact, Eliezer who sought out a wife for Isaac “brought out silver, gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave to her brother and mother costly ornaments” (Genesis 24:53). Thus, if we bear the concept that everything in life has a cost, whether it be our money, time, or emotion, we begin to realize that our lives “were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:20). So, may we honor that great sacrifice with patience and care, in order to build up wealth that will leave us eternally successful for a lifetime.

The Guilt of Success

Genesis 24:42-“So today when I came to the spring, I prayed this prayer: ‘O Lord God of my master, Abraham, please give me success on this mission’.” (New Living Translation)

Success, a.k.a. the accomplishment of one’s goals, is a feature of life we all have prayed about. However, when we pray for success, why is the residue of guilt prevalent within our minds? For Eliezer, servant of Abraham wanted to make his master proud by carrying out his wishes to find a wife for Isaac, (Abraham’s son.) Therefore, he solicited the help of God to complete the mission. What have we learned? Well, we see that Eliezer’s motives were kind. We see that his motives were rooted in faith. We see that his want of success was not purely for gain, but for the happiness of others. Thus, what goals do you have for your life? Is it spiritually driven, or is it fueled by the gas of selfishness to keep the motor running? Hence, reach high toward your aspirations and God will bless them when the motives align with His will.

Never Have I Ever

Psalm 33:15- He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. (New Living Translation)

Today we will play a game of “have you ever.” This is a serious game as its intent is to expose the inner sanctum of our hearts. For to expose is to reveal to the world that we are hurting. For when we open up a portal to our lives for all the world to see, we can be met with indifference. We can be met with harsh language, anger or vindictiveness. We can be met with a flower only to realize the thorn pricked our skin. We now see the very essence, which kept us alive spilling onto the ground, as we made a choice to open the gateway to both good and evil. Is it now time to shut the blinds? Should we resemble a recluse who yearns for no outside contact? Why would we want to proceed on this journey? The answer: only by the grace of God, Who sends us encouragement through others walking along a similar path. Hence, have you ever felt vulnerable? The answer should be “yes,” so you too can experience true joy.

I WILL…

Isaiah 46:4-
Herbert Bowen, Jr. Voices Against the Grain Devotional Writer

Herbert Bowen, Jr.
Voices Against the Grain Devotional Writer

I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. (New Living Translation)

I WILL do nothing until the Lord directs me otherwise. I WILL walk within the sunshine and the midnight glow to reflect on each day that began and ended. I WILL put my trust in Him. Therefore, I WILL is not my declaration, but God’s. I WILL is a call to lay down our artillery to reach an armistice. I WILL is a statement that has proven itself, unrelenting. Thus, we must allow I WILL to be the mantra that saves us, the phrase that keeps us, and the battle cry that frightens our enemies. We were made for more and since we already “have patiently suffered for God without quitting”  I WILL takes a new direction. One of which encapsulates our souls to share in each other’s burdens so WE WILL be able to continue along our journey (Revelation 2:3).

Sewn Together By Works of Purpose

1 Corinthians 3:8
The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. (New Living Translation)

Regardless of what you think, it takes a team to get a job done. No one can rely on themselves to wade through every struggle, or push past every defeat. Work is the amalgam of different threads woven together to create an awe-inspiring tapestry. This tapestry is one-of-a-kind, as it depicts the unique characteristics of those chosen through the vibrant and intricate patterns of its design. These designs, however, were not constructed by human hands, but were divinely intertwined by God, who knew the talents and capabilities of each thread that would make His masterpiece. Thus, we all have a purpose. We all have imbued traits that were solely made for us individually. We are Our Father’s children. Therefore, let us “be encouraged and woven together by strong ties of love” because God put us together for a reason (Colossians 2:2).

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

Colossians 1:11-12- We pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so you will have the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. (New Living Translation)

Take a look at the snapshot presented before us. A concise and  precise view into the attributes and actions that will align us with our Lord. First up: endurance, which is the ability to continue or last, despite fatigue, or adverse conditions. Second: patience, which is the steady perseverance to continue when confronted with delay. Two words, one outcome provided by the God Who is, Who gives us strength to stay the course. Thus, when we remain within these principles we locate a well of joy previously untapped. This well becomes our life source as it contains the Living Water needed to carry out our day. This well has provided us many blessings, which we must be prepared to share with others.

Who Needs a Little Peace and Quiet?

Romans 8:6- So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. (New Living Translation)

There is something serene about the word “peace.” Synonyms, such as halcyon, amity, and accord, seem to follow the same suit. Thus, there is something exquisite that can be found within the word “peace.” It could be crystal clear waters glistening in the afternoon sun, or smoke lightly dissipating after both opposing sides agree to a cease fire, or perhaps, the most coveted example, peace within a relationship. Where both sides find love within being wronged, experience within tumultuous situations, and passion throughout listless days. Peace is love personified in its ultimate form. For to have peace in spite of chaos, is a rare jewel that can only be manifested through the picturesque gem that gleams with the luminosity of God’s favor. Hence, His grace provides peace and His words “It is forgiven” provide serenity to our eternal lives.  (#Godsway)
