Ordinary People, Extraordinary Work: “I’m Not Tired Yet”

But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. – Isaiah 64:8 (English Standard Version)

“Been working for Jesus a long time (I’m not tired yet), Been running for Jesus a long time (I’m not tired yet), Been working for Jesus a long time (I’m not tired yet), Been singing for Jesus a long time (I’m not tired yet), Been running by day and praying by night (I’m not tired yet), I’ve gotta get going it’s a mighty hard fight” (I’m not tired yet). These are the beginning lyrics of a joyous song performed by the Mississippi Mass Choir entitled “I’m Not Tired Yet.”

The song reflects a person who is employed by the Lord Jesus Christ himself. It reflects a person who made a definite decision that they would deny themselves and seek the Kingdom of God and its righteousness. All of us were created by God but not all of us can be called a ‘child of God.’ That’s a significant difference we often forget. You recall when Jesus was conversing with the pious self-righteous Jews he said, “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.” –John 8:44-45

If you want to be used and empowered mightily by the Lord Jesus Christ you’ve got to resemble His character. For the Bible says, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” –1 Peter 1:14-16

Isaiah 64-8 my life in the potter's hands

You say, “But I’m just a school teacher.” Or, “I’m a babysitter.” Or, “I’m a stay at home mom. What impact can I make?”

Listen, it doesn’t make a difference your occupation. ALL that God requires is total and complete devotion and surrender to Him and you just watch the Holy Spirit work! You may view yourself as an ordinary person but God certainly has extraordinary work for you to do! If you are alive today, that is a testimony in itself that God still has a purpose for you! A purpose where you can take part in continuing to usher in the Kingdom of God here on earth. Do you believe? It’s my prayer that you do and I know that you will be blessed. Amen
